We all hear it everyday in forums, on general chat, etc. “This guy keeps ganking me, I am getting tired of this,” or “Why do they keep ganking me? They are 70 and I am a lowbie.”
Ok we have all heard this and sympathize to some extent. However, it is important to remember that when you joined the server you are currently playing on it did say PVP or Player Versus Player. Simply put whether you like it or not they will gank you if they are feeling in the mood.
Now I have a code about ganking lowbies and try to stick to this code for the most part, but even I get caught up in the world PVP atmosphere from time to time. Lets face it though when you join a PVP enabled server you are bound to be ganked, camped and ganked some more from time to time.
What people need to realize is that the type of people that play on PVP servers are completely different then those that play on PVE or RP servers. They have joined these servers to be able to have a challenge while questing and we all know that on some servers or times of days it can be extremely challenging.
Some people simply live for the thrill of running around lowbie areas on their high level characters and making life for these up and coming players simply miserable. I know of a guy on the Maiev server who plays a 70 Night Elf Hunter (RazorBaxx I believe is the correct spelling) that just spends his days doing exactly this. Many times I have come across him on my Rogue or Hunter or been the unfortunate victim of his lowbie ganking. Of course in my case I simply log a main and give him a taste of his own medicine, but this does not stop him or others like him. For them the game is about PVP and they thrive on this aspect no matter the level of the person they are ganking.
PVP servers take a special type of person to play on them. You have to have thick skin because gankings can come fast, random and constant. The fact of the matter is if you do not like this type of environment then you are better off playing on a RP or PVE server or transfering your characters to one.
There is no sense in complaining because PVP servers are here to stay. There is nothing you are going to be able to do about being ganked except to move to one of the other types of servers. Remember the next time you see a lowbie running around on your PVP server what it was like for you and simply say “HI” to that enemy lowbie. Remember the next time you see them it may be them ganking you and they never remember that time you let them walk away unscathed.

Heh. That’s funny. I just started playing WoW seriously this year, on a PvP server. My kids have been playing since beta and love the PvP thing. They insisted. It certainly made things more challenging and yes, interesting.
Still, I believe in that weird idea of fair play, but that’s just me. I have a 70 rogue, with some s1 Glad gear, and I won’t be ganking any lowbies, unless they’re ganking first and someone needs help.
My feeling is that charging into a lowbie area and killing everyone is just griefing and those people deserve all the scorn they receive (is it because they can’t handle equal level PvP?) But you’re right. It IS a PvP server, so no GM calls. Suck it up or get even or both.
And I have said “Hi” to the enemy a number of times, both higher and lower.
LOL I have to agree with you on this Greg. The big thing is that it is simply a game. I do not like ganking lowbies, but sometimes the anger gets the best of us when it comes to being body camped and we take it out on every enemy in the area.
